Rye Cottage
II
Late C14, C16. Timber-framed house, with older part of 3 bays, and an additional bay
on the south end. There are 4 pairs of crucks, terminating above the collar; the later
part is square-framed with curved struts. One-storey and attic. Thatched roof, hipped
at ends, with eyebrows to small attic casements of 2-lights (one with tiling below the
cill). Exposed timber frame with painted brick infill, small section of painted brick
walling at the north side in Monk bond. Casements, one old metal light. Boarded door
in solid frame.
