TL 64 SE STEEPLE BUMPSTEAD

House, C17, extended in C18, altered in C19. Timber framed, mainly plastered,
partly clad with yellow bricks in Flemish bond, roofed with handmade red clay
tiles. 3 bays aligned NW-SE with central chimney stack, and service wing to NE
with end chimney stack, forming an irregular T-plan. C18 wing in N angle with
axial chimney stack at junction with main range. C20 porch in E angle. 2
storeys. SE elevation, gable end of main range clad with yellow brick,
remainder plastered. C20 half-glazed door, one tripartite double-hung sash
window of 4-12-4 lights, early C19, one C20 casement window. First floor, one
double-hung sash window of 16 lights, late C19, one C20 casement window.
Grouped diagonal shafts on main chimney stack. Axial beams with lamb's tongue
stops on both floors in NW and NE sections, boxed in SE rooms. 2 C17 moulded
doors on ground floor and 2 more on first floor. RCHM 26.
