Large red brick house with good facade built in latter half of C18 by Jas Scarlet
(died 1807). 3 storeys and cellars, red plain tile roof with 2 hipped ends.
5 window range, plus 2 window range at west end, double hung sashes with glazing
bars in plain reveals. Central 1st floor. Venetian window with Ionic order
and Diocletian window over. Centre of front breaks forward under pediment,
(1 window range). Parapet, stone modillioned cornice, moulded stone coat of
arms under pediment, stone band between ground and 1st floor. 2 central doorways
with 6 panelled doors and 3 pillared common porch, up steps with iron handrails.
Ground floor has modern brick bay at east end. To rear a good brick facade
with 3 storey bay windows at each side. Good quality late C18 detailing internally,
including some murals. Roof construction is original, and there are indications
in the cellars of an earlier building on the site.
