Originally a College or Chantry House, founded under the will of Bartholomew,
Lord Bouchier in 1411. Of original building only a small part remains with
a C19 addition to the street front and a C16 enlargement on the north side.
The original building has a very fine elaborate roof construction, visible on
the 1st floor. There are parts of an original hammer beam roof, one with a
terminal carved angel, and parts of an embattled cornice with traceried panels.
Side purlins and ridge piece. Collar arches are spur tied. The C16 upper storey
projects on south-west side and there are some moulded ceiling beams. 2 storeys,
timber-framed and plastered with red plain tile roof. Externally of little architectural
value, but remaining parts of interior rich in detail. (RCHM 2).
