Infants school, formerly the stables to Gosfield Hall. C18/C19. Red brick
built with red plain tiled roofs. Half H-plan with gabled forward crosswings
and centre forward feature gable to centre block. Red brick chimneys to
crosswing gable apex. Six red brick chimneys to right range and two to rear
range all with moulded bases and caps. Two storeys. Left range gable end with
vertically boarded doors to both floors. Iron steps to first floor. The
courtyard face with 5 window range to first floor, four range to ground floor
of small paned vertically sliding sashes and double doors with two lights and
two lights over. All with wide plain painted stucco surrounds. Centre range
with 2:1:2 window range of matching windows right and left of gable. Central
round headed window with margins and keystone over, below which are double
panelled doors with lights and light over in matching surround. Clock to apex.
Barge boards to gable. To the far right is a half glazed door with window over.
The right range has two ground floor windows to gable end. Courtyard return
with five window range to first floor of mainly matching windows whilst the
ground floor has four circular leaded windows, a red tiled bay with a French
door and a part glazed door with light over and side windows right and left.
Between each pair of round windows is an external chimney stack. The courtyard
is enclosed by a red brick wall approximately 2 metres high with round coping
and central ornate double cast and wrought iron gates. Stone flags to
courtyard.
