House, late C16. Timber framed and plastered with gabled peg tile roofs.
All of 2 storeys but with attics over part. Plan consists of a large, wide
crosswing form block, an entry staircase and stack bay and lower block to the
east. The stair tower has its own gabled roof, at right angles to the crosswing.
Central to the composition is a large contemporary stack with tall base and
4 octagonal shafts as original. This has large fireplaces with, on the ground
floor, a lintelled opening to the hall and an arched opening to the crosswing.
The room over this has a smaller arched and chamfered fireplace with stone
facing. The newel staircase is substantially original and there are complete
door openings into the crosswing and from this into the 'baffle' lobby. The
crosswing storey posts have moulded corbels with chamfering. The windows are
leaded light casements, one with original ovolo mullions and one of the C17.
Some old doors from Pelhams Hall. Minor extensions with peg tile roofs at
the east end. RCHM 4.
