Wall. C17 and early C18. Red brick with half-round moulded coping. Encloses
an irregular quadrilateral garden SE of the C20 Shalford Hall, beginning approx.
25 metres SE of Shalford Hall and extending 10 metres to the NE, 78 metres to
the SE, 70 metres to the SW, 72 metres to the NW, 12 metres to the NE, and 24
metres to the NW. Height mostly 2-4 metres on the outside, ground level raised
on the inside. Mostly of English bond; the NE wall is of Flemish bond with
diaper designs in flared headers forming diamonds. The SW wall includes some
packing courses of red clay tiles. Blocked wickets in NE and SW walls. In the
SE wall a 13 metre gap has been closed in Flemish bond. Shalford Hall, late C16
and C17, was recorded by the RCHM (2), but was severely damaged in the Second
World War, and demolished before 1960.
