House and attached barn. Late C17 or C18 with late C18 extension; bresummer
inscribed: "IB 1703". Stone rubble, the house part painted, slate roof.
2 storeys, 4 bays, with barn to right. Slate dripcourse. Windows have
small-paned casements, that to 1st bay of ground floor has fixed glazing and
fire window to left. Wide-boarded door has strap hinges and wood lock with
decorative metal plates; slate gabled canopy. Barn has paired pivoted doors,
one placed in barn (1986); roof carried down as pentice. Small window and door
to right, with slate dripcourse over. Gable-end stack and cross-axial stack.
Right returns have 2 lean-to extensions, one a privy, retaining seat. Rear of
barn has dripcourse, rear of house has entrance and irregular fenestration.
Interior has upper cruck truss with stud and plaster partition wall. Ground
floor has stone fireplace and plank and muntin partition; stone stair. Property
of The National Trust, the gift of Beatrix Potter.
