Outbuilding to the
south of Hazelbarrow
Farmhouse
GV II
Farm outbuilding. Mid C17, with alterations in C19 and C20.
Coursed squared coal measures sandstone with quoins and a
corrugated sheeting roof, hipped at the north end. Two storeys,
eight bays, with an irregular pattern of openings, many of which
have C20 insertions, but others being of C17 date. The original
pattern of openings appears to have been of single quoined
doorways, with 2-light mullioned windows beneath hoodmoulds
between the doorways, at ground floor level, and taking-in
doorways with quoined surrounds at first floor level, with
mullioned windows beneath hoodmoulds at the north end. One
quoined doorway remains unaltered to the north of centre at
ground floor level, two other doorways have been altered to form
windows, and two C20 double doorways have been inserted,
incorporating a fourth quoined doorway. The most northerly of
the two double doors sits beneath a continuous hoodmould which
embraces three adjacent openings to the north. At first floor
level, at the north end are a former 2-light mullioned window,
now with C20 glazing and a single light C17 window, both beneath
hoodmoulds. Towards the centre, at first floor level, a 2-light
chamfer mullioned window survives, beneath a hoodmould, but with
one light blocked. At the northern end, an inserted double
doorway. North end wall has a single doorway with a chamfered
quoined surround. The rear elevation retains single and 2-light
C17 openings, some mullioned. Included for group value only.
