Terrace of four mill-workers' cottages, c 1843. Probably by Weightman & Hadfield.
Coursed squared limestone with gritstone dressings and quoins. Welsh slate roof
with central group of four stacks and two further ridge stacks. Single storey
plus attic. Symmetrical four bay south elevation. Doorway on the left with stone
surround, set within C20 porch. 3-light chamfered mullion window with dripmould
and diamond lights. Doorway with stone surround and bracketed hood. 3-light
chamfered mullion window with dripmould and diamond lights. Similar 3-light window
with C20 glazing. Doorway with stone surround and bracketed hood. Three light
chamfered mullion window with dripmould, outer lights with diamond glazing. Doorway
with stone surround and bracketed hood. Four gabled dormers above with wooden
bargeboards and finials and 2-light windows, mostly with diamond glazing. The
cottages form part of the mill settlement built to serve Cressbrook Mill. They
form part of a symmetrical composition with Nos 59 - 62 and nos 63 - 65 Top Cottages.
