GV II*

House. Probable C15 and early C17. Timber framed, part-plastered, and part
exposed. The roofs are all gable ended and of pegtiles. Of complex plan
involving at least 2 major builds and of 2 storeys. The north entrance front
has a long rendered block to the east, at right angles to the drive with 2 large
rendered C17 stacks with thin pilaster-like strips. A large crosswing of
probable C15 to the west has large curved down bracing and end of crown post
roof exposed on face. This has early C17 bargeboards. To the west of this is a
2 storey hall range with 2 storey porch of exposed framing, display gable in its
centre and big crosswing at the west end. These have original bargeboards on
front and rear, with pendants and some altered frieze windows. This hall block
has large off-centre stack with pilaster strips. C20 extension to west and
rear. Windows are C19 metal casements with leaded lights set in ovolo moulded
painted frames with timber label hoods. Internally the frame is part exposed
and there is some C17 panelling. Moated site. RCHM 14.
