Detached house, formerly a farmhouse. Mid C17, with early-C18 alterations and
additions. Roughcast cob on stone footings; gabled-end asphalted slate roof.
Originally a 2-room, central through-passage plan house, with a later wing added to
the rear of the right-hand room. Both rooms are heated by internal end stacks, and
the newal stair-turret stands to the rear of the left-hand room. 2 storeys.
Front: 4-window range; one 2-light and three 3-light casement windows to first
floor, their lintels at eaves level; 3-light casement window to either side of
simple porch with a panelled front door. C20 casement windows to right-hand
elevation. Brick leanto at rear, with one 2-light casement window above.
Interior: right-hand room with end fireplace, chamfered lintel with step stops; one
deeply chamfered cross ceiling beam with eroded stops, and a half-beam above
fireplace with run-out stops. The partition between this room and the passage runs
up through both storeys. Left-hand room with chamfered cross ceiling beam, with
ovolo moulding and unstopped; early-C18 panelled doors, including one with good
fielded panels, now set in the rear leanto, but originally to the rear of the
passage. First floor with early panelled doors, including double-doors to cupboard,
with shouldered fielded panels, drawers below, and a cyma recta cornice, and perhaps
late C17 or very early C18. One planked door with H L hinges.
Roof (roofspace not accessible) : 2 jointed crucks, with big straight upper blades.
