House. Dated 1826. Cob on stone plinth, rendered, slate hipped roof. Double
depth house with rear service wing. 2 storeys throughout. Front: 3 bays, central
doorway with panelled architrave, 6-panelled door with 2 small rectangular
toplights inserted. Timber sash window, 6 panes per light, to left-hand side,
slated canted bay of 3 sashes, 6 panes per light, to side. 3 timber sash windows
above, 6 panes per sash with Crown glass. Tall side stacks of brick, now largely
rendered, one hand thrown chimney pot. The rear right-hand wing has 3 lateral
internal stacks to the roadside, 1 timber sash window, 6 panes per light with horns
to the end, 2 timber sashes, 8 panes per sash to garden front. Interior: plain
simply moulded cornices, picture rails and staircases. A dated armorial slate
bears the date 1826. The roadside elevation, devoid of windows rests on an
unusually high plinth built to protect the cob from the frequent flooding of the
Culm and Exe. The garden enclosed by a 1 1/2 storey rendered wall following the line
of the highway, with tile capping.
