Former rectory converted to flats. Early/mid C19, possibly a remodelling of an
earlier house; converted to flats in the late 1940s.
Originally stuccoed, the stucco removed except for the gr.ound floor of the front
elevation exposing rough stone rubble, and brick quoins and brick arches to the
windows. Hipped slate roof concealed by a parapet above a cornice on the front
elevation, rendered stacks.
Plan: Deep rectangular plan, 2 rooms wide originally with a central entrance into a
passage and a large stair hall behind the passage, service rooms in a rear wing
roofed at right angles to the main range.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 6-bay front with the front door in the 4th bay from
the left. 6 first floor C19 12-pane sashes with shutters ; C19 12-pane ground floor
sashes, 2-leaf C19 panelled front door, some of the panels replaced with glazing.
Fine 8-bay timber trellis verandah with-l-bay returns and round-headed arches with
wrought iron spandrels the 2 centre bays broken forward with carved timber
spandrels of an Art Nouveau character. The left return of the main block has a C20
door and 2 first floor and 1 ground floor 12-pane sashes, the first floor windows
with shutters. The service wing, to the left, is 4 bays with a mixture of timber
sashes and C20 windows. The right return has 5 first floor 12-pane sashes (some with
shutters) and 2 similar ground floor sashes, a third window has been converted to a
door.
Interior: Not thoroughly inspected but some C19 joinery survives and the stair hall
is complete with a stick baluster stair.
