House. 1666 with additions to rear and alterations. Red-brown brick,
slate roof. 2½ storeys, T-plan. 4 bays with projecting right hand
bay with shaped gable and smaller projecting entrance bay with similar
gable. Rectangular timber casements, mostly replaced, in cambered
openings and with tile cills. Blocked opening with cambered head at
attic level in right hand bay, 2 added dormers to 1st and 3rd bays.
Replaced studded front door, with original behind. Chamfered stone
plinth, 1st floor dentillated band, brick parapet with stone coping at
left side gable. Brick stacks, one projecting beyond left side, one
set to rear of central ridge and with 3 diagonally set flues. Small
blocked openings with arched heads at 1st floor on right hand side.
Interior: Studded door with iron fittings has inscription "In the
time of Owen Clutton 1666 AC" above it. Stop chamfered beams.
Inglenook. Close string stair has flat pierced balusters, moulded
rail and square moulded newels, that at bottom bears Clutton arms.
Ormerod, Pevsner and Hubbard.
