Pair of villas. Mid C19. Incised stucco with stucco detail;
dry slate hipped roof over moulded entablature with dentils
and paired brackets; roof dormers with segmental pediments and
sashes; roofs of wings with pediments to end gables and
oculae. Double-depth plan plus narrow wings set back at far
left and right, each house with 1 room at the front and
entrance halls are at left and right.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus attic over basement; overall
symmetrical 4-window front. Possibly original horned sashes
including some sashes to rear with glazing bars and French
windows to balconies over canted bays to ground floor of
front, and there are 2 similar canted bays at rear. Stucco
detail includes channelled rustication to ground floor,
central quoin strip and quoin strips to corners, and the
canted bays are surmounted by moulded cornices, linked to
string, and turned balustrades. Pilastered doorways at left
and right have moulded hoods on brackets and overlights above
4-panel doors.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely reflect the high quality of
the exterior.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: low rubble road-frontage walls with
limestone copings and 3 chamfered and panelled gate-piers with
plinths and moulded caps.
Part of a fine planned group in the Classical tradition. Shown
on 1867 map.
