Lodge, circa 1830; Flemish bond red brick, grey slate roof; buff
sandstone dressings. 1 storey; symmetrical to drive. Tuscan
pedimented projecting porch has stone antae to front of brick
side-walls; a column paired with each anta; plain stone frieze;
painted wooden modillion pediment. Door of 6 fielded panels in
recessed brick opening; 3-pane fixed light in recessed brick panel to
each side; 6-pane casement of vertical proportion in recessed brick
panel in each wing. Each end-gable is pedimented; small 4-pane
casement (to road) in right end; canted bay window, probably early
C20, in left end. All openings have flat gauged brick arches. Square
central chimney has stone plinth and moulded cap, 4 flues and square
recess in brickwork at centre of each side. Mid C20 rear extension is
not prominent.
Well composed and detailed, probably by the architect of Cogshall
Hall, Comberbach, q.v.
