Farmhouse, circa 1860s with further service wing and back stair added in circa 1880s.
Rendered stone rubble with slate roof with hipped ends and dentilled cornice.
Rendered brick chimney stack on left-hand hipped end and rendered axial chimney stack
in service wing.
Plan probably comprises central entrance with 2 main reception rooms on front.
Service rooms in projecting wing to rear with separate entrance probably leading into
original kitchen. Overall L-shaped plan. Further 2-storey service range added in
circa 1880s in angle of main range and service wing.
2 storeys and cellar. Front and side elevations retaining original C19 hornless
sashes. Symmetrical 3-window front; ground floor with two 12-pane sashes flanking
central circa C19 door with slate hood. First floor with two 16-panes sashes
flanking central 12-pane sash. Side elevation with almost regular 6-window front;
ground floor with C19 bay window to reception room on left, two 12-pane sashes near
centre of elevation with part glazed C19 plank door with slate hood and 12-pane sash
to right. First floor with six 16-pane sashes. Lower 2-storey service range to
rear.
Simple interior with C19. slate chimney pieces in reception rooms. Softwood C19 back
stair in rear service range.
This is an interesting example of a mid C19 farmhouse of the high farming period
which takes advantage of its long service wing by creating another impressive facade
of 6 bays. The farmhouse remains unaltered on all elevations retaining its C19
fenestration.
