A Grade II Listed Building in Kingsand, Cornwall

The Institute with its clock tower and the village of Kingsand, Cornwall

Uploader's Comments

Kingsand is one of two neighbouring former fishing villages on the Rame Peninsula in the far south-east of Cornwall, where it overlooks Plymouth Sound. Its most famous landmark is the clock tower, which dates from 1911. It was erected as part of the adjacent Grade II-listed community building ("The Institute") to commemorate the coronation of King George V. It was badly damaged in severe gales a few years ago when its foundations were nearly washed away. Additional sea defences have now been put in place.
