GV II
House, possibly formerly part of the Fox and Hounds public house qv. Circa early
C19, remodelled circa mid C19 but incorporating C18 walling in rear wall. Painted
killas and granite rubble with dressed granite quoins, jambstones, sills and lintels.
Dry Delabole slate roof with brick chimneys over gable ends.
Plan probably originally of 2 single cell houses with through passage to each end and
central through passage between the two. Remodelled circa mid C19 to form 1 house
with central passage leading to central stair and incorporating end passages into 2
equal flanking reception rooms. Single storey wing at right angles attached to
right-hand rear (north east) corner and later extended.
2 storeys. Symmetrical 3 window south front with mid C19 12-pane hornless sashes.
Central doorway door. Right and left-hand window openings were originally doorways.
First floor originally had 2 wide window openings, reduced to correspond to original
ground floor window openings circa mid C19 and window opening inserted over doorway
at the same time. The 3 first floor openings now have brick jambs and shallow brick
arches and joints of former openings with granite jambstones can clearly be seen.
Rear has blocked doorway to right (west) opposite former doorway to front and
corresponding doorway at other end links house to wing.
Interior has original dog-leg stair with stick balusters chamfered newel post and
turned pendant. Reception rooms with plain plaster ceilings.
Included for group value.
