GV II
Farmhouse. Late Medieval, remodelled early C17 and mid C20. Slatestone front and
ends, rendered rear with asbestos slate roof and external stone gable stacks. 3
room plan with C20 wing to rear centre and mostly rebuilt wing to rear lower end. 2
storeys. 4 window irregular front with entrance between windows 3 and 4. Wide
window opening to ground floor left with oak lintel over. Dove holes to first floor
between windows 1 and 2. All windows are 2- and 3-light C20 wooden casements with
glazing bars. Rear has irregular small openings and 2-light ovolo moulded mullioned
window to ground floor right upper end (similar window was found in blocked opening
to lower gable end).
Interior has heavy chamfered and stopped waney oak beam to wider middle room
(probably hall). Several moulded and stopped oak lintels survive including one with
scrolled stops. A fine plasterwork barrel ceiling (probably early C17) survives in
first floor room to upper end with central pendant and geometric and plant
mouldings. Several raised cruck trusses were removed during renovation and smoke
blackening observed. Surviving oak pegs support this evidence. A wide lean-to
porch projects at entrance.
