House, originally probably the service wing of adjoining house No 59 with road
frontage. C18. Painted or rendered rubble walling with some slatehanging to
first floor. Scantle slate roof on 2 levels adjoining No 59 at right (east)
gable end with brick chimney, left of middle and roof at lower level adjoining gable end with hip at left. Many circa early C18 crested clay ridge tiles on
both roofs including hips. Single depth plan of 3 rooms with floor level of
room adjoining No 59 at lower level. Flue within rear wall of left-hand room.
2 storeys plus unlit attic. Irregular 2-window south front. Circa late C18
16-pane hornless sashes with flush to wall boxes and thick meeting rails to
first floor right-hand part. Left-hand window is paired sash ie 2 adjoining
16-pane sashes first floor left is slate-hung and blind, but round-headed
window opening was recently rediscovered to ground floor. Ovolo-moulded joist ends under slatehanging. Ground floor of main part has 9:6-pane casement with adjoining doorway, left, a 2-light casement, right of middle, and further doorway, right, with C20 window. Left-hand west hipped end, overlooking quay,
has wide central window opening with C20 2-light casement to each floor. Ground floor opening was originally wider.
Interior has small stone hearth to middle room, 3 C18 2-panel doors and
bowtell moulded beams to first floor and original lapped and pegged high level collars to original pine roof structure.
An interesting C18 building with rare examples of C18 ridge tiles.
