SW 52 NE GERMOE CHURCHTOWN, Germoe

6/229 Gweal Booth (north of Gweal Drogoe)

II

Small house, used as carpenter's shop, and adjoining outbuilding possibly shippon
with store over. C18, extended circa mid C19. Granite rubble walls, wooden lintels.
Steep corrugated iron roof (formerly thatched) to house, slurried scantle slate roof
to outbuilding with taller eaves; gable ends. Brick chimney over the party wall.
Plan: 2 rooms with originally a cross passage between: parlour, left, with small
fireplace and hall/kitchen, right, with large fireplace. Extended with 1 room plan 2
storey building left, and 1 room plan single storey building in the C19.
2 storeys. Slightly irregular 2 window south front, the smaller first floor windows
closer together with possibly blocked window opening between. C20 door and windows
in original openings. Small buttress left of house. Outbuilding, left, has central
doorway with window left and small window right, loading doorway over, right of
middle.
Interior : virtually complete except that partitions and stairs are removed.
Original fireplaces with large oak lintel over the kitchen fireplace, C18 bowtell
moulded ceiling beams and original oak roof structure with lapped and pegged collars,
halved and pegged apices and the original battens for holding the thatch.
