House. Circa late C16 or early C17, possibly with earlier origins. Rendered and
painted stone rubble and cob. Rag slate roof with gable ends. Brick shaft to end
stack on left and large stone rubble end stack on right.
Plan: House built down slope with lower end down to right. Two room and through
passage plan heated by end stacks with C17 2-storey porch; possibly a slightly later
addition. There are thick cross walls on either side of the passage, the higher
cross wall continuing almost up to collar level. The roof structure was replaced in
the C19. Small service wing to rear of right hand room possibly C18.
Exterior: Two storeys. Asymmetrical 2:1:1 window front with 2-storey porch near
centre with asymmetrical gable. 4-centred granite outer arch with hollow chamfer and
eroded stops. The right-hand jamb is incised with the initials. T.B. (or P) E. 2-
light mullion window with hood mould on first floor. Higher side of front to left
has a circa C19 3-light casement on ground floor and 2-light casement and 4-pane
sash on first floor. Lower side of front to right has a 2-light mullion window and
6-pane sash on ground floor and 2-light casement on first floor. Doorway inside porch
to passage has chamfered square headed granite frame with pyramid stops.
Interior: Wide passage flanked by thick cross walls. Plastered ceilings and
fireplace to lower end blocked by rayburn stove. Higher end partitioned and stair
inserted. (The left hand room which is heated by an end stack was not accessible at
time of survey). Roof appears to have been largely replaced in the early to mid C19.
