Description

WERRINGTON
SX 38 NW
9/333 Barn and outbuildings to south and
- east of Old Farmhouse at Cullacott

GV II

Barn and outbuildings. C17 origins extended in C19 and partly rebuilt in C20.
Partly rendered stone rubble and cob. Rag slate roofs with hipped ends on right and
front right.
Plan: Threshing barn of overall rectangular plan with opposing doors near centre in
the longer right and left hand sides. Circa early C19 wing added in front of left
hand threshing door and continuing front wall to left, threreby forming an overall
'L' shaped plan. Circa mid C19 open fronted cart shed added towards rear on right
handside, the cartshed further to right with a 2-storey outbuilding, where the
ground drops down to right.
Exterior: Earlier barn on front right has half hipped end on right and three rows of
pigeon holes across the front. Plank doors in later extension on left. The rendered
range which is attached to the left of this extension is a C20 remodelling and
rebuilding of an earlier outbuilding, with only part of the earlier walls surviving.
The right hand side of the threshing barn is rendered and set back on right is an
open fronted cart shed which is of single storey and has timber posts to the front.
The two storey outbuilding attached on right has a stable-type door on the ground
floor, where the ground drops down to right and is partly covered with corrugated
plastic on the first floor to right with outshut attached on front.
Interior: The earlier barn has two C17 chamfered timber doorframes.
