Farmhouse. Circa 1840s. Local stone rubble, stuccoed with incised lines and painted
on the front elevation; rendered and painted on the left and unpainted with brick
dressings on the right and rear elevations. Slate roof partly bitumen coated with
hipped ends and hipped ends to rear. Brick end and axial stacks.
Plan: Triple depth plan with central through passage. The plan remains complete and
intact with a central wide through passage with front stair on left hand side and
back stair on left hand side to rear. Large principal room on front left with pump
room, scullery and complete dairy to rear and dining room on front right with sitting
room and kitchen to rear. A partly glazed screen on the first floor landing divides
the front and back staircases.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window front; deep overhanging eaves. Complete
early C19 16-pane hornless sashes with crown glass. C19 4-panel door with traceried
fanlight above flanked by two sashes and three sashes above. Early C19 tripartite
sash in left hand side elevation. Symmetrical 3-window rear elevation with hornless
tripartite sashes with brick dressings. The rear elevation looks onto a cobbled yard
which is particulary unspoilt.
Interior: Complete with original joinery and carpentry details. Principal room on
front left has a moulded plaster cornice with floral trail and central rose. Dining
room and sitting rooms have simple moulded cornices. Front stair has turned
balusters and wreathed rail and back stair with stick balusters. Complete pump room
with pump and trough. Complete dairy with slate shelves and salting troughs.
