Farmhouse. Circa mid C17, with additions and alterations of late C19 and some C20
alterations. Granite rubble. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Gable
end stacks with brick shafts.
Plan: Originally a 3-room plan. The rooms to left and right heated from gable end
stacks. A cross passage, with a doorway at the rear set to left, possibly giving
direct access to the lower end room to left. The central room was unheated, lit from
the small window to the right of the door. In circa late C19, a straight stair was
inserted in the rear of the passage, and a kitchen wing of one-room plan, heated from
a gable end stack, was added to the rear behind the lower end room to left. In C20,
the partition wall between the unheated central room and the room to right was
removed.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 4-window front ; all windows C20 casements. First
floor all windows are 3-light casements except second from left which is 2-light.
Ground floor has 3 casements with chamfered granite surrounds, two 2-light and one
narrow single light to the right of the door. The doorway has a 4-centred arch, in
granite, hollow-chamfered, with C20 door. Left end blind. Right end has stack
projecting at the base of the wall. The rear of the house has blocked window at
ground floor; the wall changes line to right inside the porch. The wing has a blind
gable end, inner side has 6-pane sash at ground floor and two 4-pane sashes at first
floor. Porch with C20 door and 2-pane light.
Interior: At ground floor, all ceiling beams are C19, with C20 fireplaces at the
gable ends. The doorway to the rear wing is granite, with chamfered surrouund, flat
arch. Roof not accessible.
