Farmhouse, including front and rear garden walls and adjoining coach house, earth-
closet and stables. Circa mid C18 extended in the C19. Granite ashlar front,
otherwise coursed dressed granite some reused C17 chamfered fragments. Asbestos
slate roof at the front, otherwise grouted scantle slate. Brick chimneys over the
gable ends.
Plan: Overall U-shaped plan plus stable in rear-left-hand corner of rear courtyard.
Original double depth plan house at the front has parlour on the left, slightly
larger kitchen on the right with entrance hall between leading to stair hall flanked
by shallow rear service rooms. Circa early C19 a 1-room plan kitchen wing was added
at right angles behind the right-hand side and a deeper plan stables, heated grooms
loft over stables with external stone steps, heated coach house and adjoining earth
closet was added at right angles behind the left-hand side of the house. The plan
has not been altered since.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3 window south-west front with doorway left
of middle, central to fenestration. Original openings. Circa late C19 or early C20
panelled door and 4-pane horned sashes. Circa mid-C20 glazed porch. Rear has
unaltered elevations (except for a doorway cut at a later date) facing into the
courtyard. Circa early C19 stair sash has traceried head. Coach house has tall wide
doorway which is either an old alteration or the coachhouse is an extension to the
stables. The other stable has a doorway at its front.
Interior: C18 features include: dog-leg stair with column-turned balusters over a
closed string; 2-panel doors to first floor rooms. Ground floor rooms have some good
quality early C19 features. Doorways have roundels to the corner blocks of the
architraves. Shallow rectangular garden at the front and deep rear courtyard have
dressed granite and rubble walls except for rear wall which is built of vertical
granite monoliths.
