Friends Meeting House. Dated 1830 over side entrance, probably by William
Alderson. Snecked red sandstone ashlar with heavy cornice and broad angle
pilasters on chamfered plinth. Hipped slate roof. Single-storey, 3-bay
facade. Large sash windows with glazing bars in eared pilastered surrounds.
Flanking incised rendered screen walls have panelled doors in pilastered
surrounds, that to left giving access to graveyard and that to right giving
access to 2 side entrances under a colonnade on slender cast-iron columns.
2-storey, single-bay extension to right has external stone steps to former
upper-floor schoolroom. See David M. Butler, Quaker Meeting Houses of the Lake
Counties, 1978, pp23-28.
