Description

ST GILES KINGSCOTT HILL, Kingscott
SS 51 NW IN THE WOOD
7/217 Sunnyside Cottage
-
GV II

Cottage. Probably C19, maybe earlier, modernised circa 1970. Plastered stone
rubble with C20 brick quoins; stone rubble stacks topped with C20 brick; thatch roof.
Plan: 2-room plan cottage facing south-east. Each room has a gable-end stack. The
right (north-eastern) room is the kitchen and an oven housing projects from stack.
Exterior: Symmetrical front with 4 ground floor windows and 3 first floor windows,
all C20 casements with C20 brick reveals. Central doorway contains a C20 part-glazed
plank door behind a contemporary porch.
Interior: shows largely the result of the C20 modernisation. Both fireplaces are
blocked and no carpentry is exposed. Roof not inspected.
Although the cottage stands on its own it, from the other side of the valley it does
contribute to the appearance of Kingscott, a hamlet containing a good group of listed
buildings.
