7/51 The Old Manse
GV II
House. Early C19. Painted rendered stone rubble. Slate roof with brick stacks to
each end.
Plan: Originally principal room to each side of passage, but internal partitions
removed. Kitchen to rear of right-hand room staircase and utility room outshut to
rear of left-hand room. Upper storey extends over carriage way at right end which
has been partitioned, probably in early C20, to create a narrow passage at the house
end.
2 storeys. 3 window range. C19 fenestration principally intact, all 16 paned
hornless sashes except to upper storey left end replaced with 12 paned horned sash.
Flush sash box to window over carriage entrance. Doorway has carved consoles
supporting shallow hood and C20 door.
Plank doors to carriage entrance. Restricted quoins at right end. 2 early C19 3
light casements to rear upper storey with rectangular leaded lights. Outshut has
late C19/early C20 window of 5 ogee-headed lights. Semicircular headed brick arch to
rear doorway.
Interior much altered in late C20, including removal of internal partitions,
chimneypieces and some 2 panelled doors. Early C20 privy at rear of passage
adjoining carriage-way.
The Old Manse forms a group with the Old Church (q.v.) which adjoins at the left end
with a continuous slate roof.
