House, with integral blacksmiths workshop now converted to form garage with bedrooms
over, with workshop and forge surviving to rear. Mid C19. Joint-lined stucco on
stone rubble with some brick and cob. Slate roof with gable ends, moulded timber
cornice, lion's head guttering and shaped bargeboard at right gable end. Brick
stacks to each end of dwelling-house.
House consists of principal room to each side of central entrance passage with narrow
store-room to rear of parlour to right, and staircase running up rear wall of former
kitchen to left. Late C19 and early C20 outshuts to each side of rear entrance hall
passage doorway with slate roofs. Attached to the left end of the dwelling, the
slate roof and cornice being continuous over the whole range, are the blacksmiths
workshop now converted to 2 garages with the storage loft over taken in to form
bedrooms with access from the main dwelling. Extending at right angles to the rear
of the workshops is the single storey workshop and forge.
Exterior: 2 storeys. 5 window range in all. House of 3 bays, symmetrical with
shallow quoin pilasters.
All hornless 4 paned sashes. Pilastered doorcase with moulded entablature, panelled
reveals and 3 panelled door with overlight.
Interior: C19 joinery intact. Patterned tiled floor to entrance hall. Parlour has
plain moulded plaster cornice. Kitchen retains integral cupboards and window bench.
Straight run staircase with turned balusters. King-post roof trusses. Forge
retains blacksmiths bellows in situ, brick stack and forge fittings.
