Farmhouse. C17 extended and remodelled in C18. Stone rubble with slate roof with
gable ends. Axial stone stack to front range with weatherings and drip, and 2 tall
lateral rubble stacks to front with drips, heightened in brick, that to left has
tall clay tapering pot with smoke funnels. Small brick stack at right end, and
brick stack to right gable end of rear range. Parallel range plan, the range to
front 3-room through-passage plan, with the parlour to left of cross-passage with
hall to right and possibly dairy or service end added at right end. The parallel
gable ended range added to rear is principally kitchen and service range. 2
storeys. 4-window range of half dormers with horned 4-paned sashes. Slated
canopies to ground floor openings extend to each side of hall stack, that to left
to C20 window at lower end and chamfered and scroll-stopped surround to C17
through-passage doorway with ledged 3 plank door with cover strips. Hall and inner
room windows to right with C20 fenestration also pushed out in line with stack.
Interior: ovolo moulded beams with elaborate carved scroll-stops to parlour ceiling
and fireplace lintel. Hall has single plain chamfered beam with keel stops.
Fireplace infilled. Dais bench to upper end of hall with carved bench end and
tongue and groove plank panelling to rear. Door surrounded with sunk chamfer with
ovolo mould to rear of hall with bulbous stops to the durns. Old plank door with
cover strips. Doorway to inner room has slightly cambered arch and ledged 4 plank
door. Scroll-stop chamfered beams to inner room. Ovolo moulded fireplace lintel
to chamber above this room with elaborate scroll stops. Traces of moulded plaster
cornice to principal bedroom. Scroll-stopped chamfered door surround to chamber
over parlour. 2 C17 trusses over hall and parlour with lap-jointed collars. No
sign of smoke-blackening. Roof replaced in C20 to rear range.
