Farmhouse with stables with loft over connected. Farmhouse probably C17 with 1697
modifications by datestone, and C19 alterations. Stables C19. Farmhouse stone
rubble with brick and stone dressings. Slate roofs with gable ends. Stables of
rubble heightened in cob. Slate roof with gable ends. Farmhouse has truncated
stack at left gable end, stack at right gable end with some dressed stonework and
drip to the cap bearing 1697 initialled datestone. Small brick axial shaft to stack
backing onto wide through-passage in 3-cell plan the inner room remodelled and
extended in 1697. 2-storeys. C20 fenestration 4-window range of one 2-light and 3-
light windows above three 3-light windows, those at each end have brick lintels and
that to left is inserted in blocked doorway. Those to centre and blocked opening to
right of through-passage doorway have stone voussoirs. Slated lean-to canopy to
porch with 1/2-glazed plank door. Stables attached to house by short rubble and cob
wall with slate capping and lean-to roof over plank door projecting from right gable
end. Stables have 2 plank doors with rough stone voussoirs flanked by small square
openings, that to left infilled. 2 ventilation slits at right end. Loft door at
left gable end. Farmhouse has roughly chamfered and stopped beam to hall, some
ancient joinery with L-hinges chamfered timber fireplace lintel to lower end with
dressed stone jambs. Continuous outshuts to rear expanded from original stair
turret. Roof trusses replaced.
