House. Mid C19. Stuccoed stone with moulded band at first floor level and
rusticated quoins. Slate hipped roof with crested ridge tiles and paired
shaped brackets to eaves; below the eaves a moulded string-course. Rendered
stacks at sides with moulded cornices.
Plan: Double depth plan with 2 principal rooms on the east front with an
entrance passage between leading to a staircase behind the right-hand room
and kitchen behind the left-hand room. Originally there was an axial
passage between the kitchen and principal front left-hand room to the
central doorway on the south elevation. The dairy was probably behind the
staircase in the rear right-hand (north west) corner where a single storey
wing now contains the dining room.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Almost symmetrical 3-bay east front, the windows
disposed slightly to the right. C19 4-pane sashes. Doorway to right of
centre with C19 glazed and panelled door, the top panes have stained glass
panes; early C20 glazed porch. Left-hand return, the south front, has
symmetrical 3-bay facade, 3 C19 16-pane sashes on first floor and 4-pane
sashes on ground floor; central doorway with stuccoed pediment on elaborate
consoles, glazed double doors and rectangular overlight.
The west elevation (rear) has irregular fenestration, 2 Cl9 12-pane sashes
on first floor, over a porch, and to the right the wall breaks forward as
the kitchen chimney stack. The north elevation has a central round-headed
stair window with stained glass margin panes and C20 windows below on ground
floor; to the right a single storey flat roof extension.
Interior: The chimneypieces in the 2 principal front rooms have been
removed and there are no cornices here. The hall has a moulded plaster
cornice and console brackets to an arch which lead to the original C19
staircase with moulded balusters, moulded newels and a mahogany hand rail.
Most of the original internal joinery is intact including panelled doors and
the kitchen was a large fireplace with a bracketed mantel shelf and has a
slate floor.
