SX84NW Garden wall adjoining
5/139 East of West Combe Farm-
house
GV II
Garden wall. Probably about 1827 (date of West Combe Farmhouse qv) A tall
local slate table wall with a capping of cob which was probably originally
roofed in slate or thatch.
Curved on plan, almost a quadrant, screening the front (south) garden from
the farmyard behind. The wall is attached to the house at the west end and
to the barn and cider house at the east end. In the centre of the wall
there is a small round-headed squint, splayed on the outer side, presumably
so that visitors could be observed approaching the farm. To the right a
Segmental-headed doorway. At the back (farmyard side) there is a small C19
outshut in the angle with the house, with a corrugated asbestos roof.
