5/127 Church Cottage and
Gnosall Cottage
GV II
Pair of cottages. Probably late C17. Rendered or whitewashed rubble thatched
roof. Interiors much altered and difficult to interpret, possibly cross-passage
plans; Gnosall Cottage has wing, back right. Two storeys, irregular fenst-
ration; Church Cottage, left, has two 2-light C20 casements, and at first floor
a 2 and a 3-light C18 casements with leading, in eyebrows. C20 gabled door
under porch with wooden arch on posts to thatched hood. Stack between windows
at ridge; left outer bay possibly later addition. Hipped end and splayed end
wall with 3 over 2-light casements. Glazed lean-to to back.
Gnosall Cottage has three 2-light casements, and first floor two similar, all to
horizontal bars; C20 door and porch between first and second windows. Right
gable has stack, and a further stack to internal angle with wing, which has C20
door and additions. Interiors: much modified, Gnosall Cottage has boxed trans-
verse beams, and Church Cottage some early principal rafters in part of a lean-
to. One of the cottages formerly Post Office, indicated as such on OS map.
