5/125 Barn west of Court Farm
GV II
Barn and linhay. C18. Rubble some cob, corrugated iron roof. Long bank barn
with in-line linhay. Towards farmhouse (not included) the left end has plain
wall, then flight of stone steps up to midstrey with roof swept down over
cheeks, and paired plank door to central wood mullion; cheek to right carried
through to enclose lean-to addition with square pier to outer corner. Within
lean-to a large square door opening and a square window opening. To the right
four open bays with 3 tall round piers in rubble, upper level, now without floor
(October 1988) part enclosed by horizontal corrugated sheet. Back wall, at
churchyard end has full-height plank fill, then some loose rubble fill, where
formerly a return wing, a cambered wood lintol over a part-blocked opening,
another opening blocked in, concrete block, and the main opening jambs finished
in concrete block, to upper barn level. Outer end hipped; top part of wall, for
a 500mm, in cob. Barn 11 bays, pegged. A-frame roof to 4 light purlins; linhay
in 5 bays, then A-frames with cambered collars. Large loading opening in barn
wall, blocked opening below. The farmhouse and other farmbuildings here rebuilt
or of later date than this barn range, which retains much historic fabric
despite some decline in the C20.
