Farmhouse, now house. C17, with C19 or C20 fenestration. Rubble, brick stacks,
slate roof. In two sections, with split ridge level, and stepped up across
site, set gable-end to road. Probable cross passage 3-room plan, stair turret
at back. Two storeys, front has 2+2 windows, all 2-light glazing-bar casements,
but 3-light to left of door in C20 lean-to porch. Eaves stack in brick at junc-
tion between 2 units, hipped roof to right, with eaves stack at end, in brick.
To road a 2-light glazing bar casement; various lean-to additions not of special
interest. Back has various 2 or 3-light casments, some with glazing bars; C20
door and porch, swept down roof over stair turret, with small light. Interior
has been much modified, including complete C20 roof structure, but retains a
good slate spiral staircase, with evidence of an upper flight presumably to
former larger roof space; a later straight stair inserted in C20. The central
kitchen has large slate slab lintel, and a deep chamfered rough transverse
beam. The upper end of this room has a panel and muntin screen of probably C17
date; this lies under a partition wall at the upper level, possibly concealing a
further plank wall, parts of which appear in the roof space. There are changes
of level in the building, the lowest end being away from the road; it is reputed
to have been a long house, but evidence now tenuous.
