Shippon with hay loft above and cartshed wing. Circa C18 or early C19.
Local limestone rubble. corrugated asbestos sheet roof with gabled end to
right and hipped to left lend. Shed adjoining left of front has scantle
slate hipped roof.
Plan: Long rectangular plan with shippon on ground storey and hay loft
above with rear access. At the back of the left hand end a contemporary
cartshed which is at higher ground level at rear. At the front of the left
hand end a probably Cl9 single storey addition.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Front has 6 plain shippon doorways and hipped roof
shed adjoining left with open-fronted inner side. The ground at the back
is higher and there are 2 loft doorways. The right hand gable end has a
ground floor doorway, blocked pigeon holes and a ventilation slit in the
gable above. The cartshed at the rear is open-fronted, its timber arcade
plate is chamfered with run-out stops over the chamfered wooden posts.
Roof: The hayloft over the shippon has collars halved and pegged to the
faces of the straight principals. Many of the principals are reused
probably from the left hand end of the house (qv) when it was reroofed.;
they have mortices for threaded purlins and dovetail halving for the
collars. The roof over the cart shed has collars lapped and pegged to the
face of the straight principals.
