C16 origin, altered and part rebuilt C17, enlarged C18 and C19. Brick walls with
stone details. North gable timber framed. Tiled roof with stone eaves courses.
Brick stacks with oversailing courses. Original block has 3 room lobby entrance
plan. (RCHM Class J). Entrance opposite stack between Parlour and Hall. Service
rooms north of Hall. C18 kitchen wing at rear (west) of service rooms. Single
storey, slate roofed lean to's C19 along north walls of kitchen and service rooms.
In early C19 the central stack altered and a semi circular stair inserted in the
entrance lobby. Later a passage was formed a the north end of the Hall, leading
from a new door in the main (east) front to the kitchen at the rear. At the same
time the service rooms were altered and a second stair inserted. Main elevation
has entrance door in classical style, in the original position. The Parlour and
Hall each have an ovolo-section stone mullioned window, originally of 5 lights,
reduced to 4. Later timber casement window in service room, also later door
adjoining this. First floor windows are similar, but those in the Solar and Hall
Chamber always of 4 lights. Diaper pattern brickwork to front elevation. C18
kitchen wing has timber casement windows. Interior has some chamfered ceiling beams,
and a good early C19 semi circular stair. An early example of brickwork in the area.
Upper repair at time of survey. Originally moated. Part of moat survives.
