Now 2 houses. C18, possibly on the site of an earlier building. Purbeck Stone walls
and roof. Brick stacks. A large house, at right angles to the High Street. Main
elevation from east. U-shaped plan with projecting wings at each end of a recessed
central section. Two storeys, plus attics and basement. The projecting wings have
half-hipped gables, and each has a 3-storey canted bay window, with stone mullions
and double-hung sashes, extending into the gable. In the centre section are now 2
entrance doors, at ground floor level, approached from a raised landing - above the
basement. This has a canopy on timber columns, with corrugated plastic roofing,
probably replacing glass. Double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, to ground and
first floors. Elevation to High Street has 2 storeys, with attics and basement.
Ground floor has 2 double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. First floor has 3
similar windows - one now blocked. Two dormers to attic with hipped roof. The
interior retains several original panelled doors, and No 133 has a cut-string stair-
case with simple balusters and a carved wreathed handrail. South of No 131, the
former stables and coach house has Purbeck Stone walls and a modern pantiled roof.
Stone wall and gate piers to High Street, with modern iron gates. A good house,
important in the street.
