Farmhouse. Late C16/C17. Rubble, heavy quoins, freestone dressings, double
roman tiled roofs. L-plan, extended. North (garden) elevation: main block has
2 storeys, attic and basement in plinth with openings, 1 window on each side of
and at right angles to a half-hexagon castellated stair turret, all windows are 1,
2 or 3-light casements with reserved chamfer or ovolo-moulded mullions, those at
ground under continuous dripmould, those above under hoodmoulds, at left the coped
gabled wing which breaks forward has a large relieving arch above dripmould and a
blank attic window, the return has 2-light windows and smaller similar relieving .
arch, stair has single lights, right wing has windows as left but with inserted
C20 casement under eaves, doorway at right has a moulded frame, tudor arch with
shields in spandrels, 5-panel studded door; to right, a further 1 storey and
attic, L-plan wing, one window in each section, that adjacent to main block is a
very large C20 casement with relieving arch below a small C19 casement, where
gabled wing breaks forward are 2 windows as elsewhere, where 2 roofs of main block
meet is an enormous square stack with 4 diagonal shafts. East return elevation
has 2 storeys, 4 windows, all 2-light casements, edge moulded mullions, continuous
drip and relieving arches below, ovolo-moulded mullions and hood moulds above, C20
lean-to porch at left. Rear (to road) has gable at right with 2 weathered and
one battered buttresses, main block has 2 storeys, 2 windows, all 2-light edge-
moulded casements under hood moulds, a further small gabled wing breaks forward at
left with one 2-light window as elsewhere at each level. C20 lean-to extension
fills return. Interior not accessible.
