3/182 Wraxall C. of E. Primary School
- II
School, formerly the Girls and Infants School. 1880 by William Butterfield,
(possibly incorporating an earlier building of 1863); altered and enlarged 1902.
Coursed rubble with freestone quoins and dressings; C20 tiled roof with coped
raised verges and gables; ashlar stacks. Irregular T-plan, in a plain early
Gothic style. The main elements of the composition are the central, projecting
wing, which has a 3-light cross window with trefoil heads; and the adjoining
2 stage tower which has a pyramidal roof, paired, single-light, trefoil headed
windows to the bell chamber (louvred vents) and a plank door in a shouldered,
ashlar surround on the west side. Set back to the left of the centre is the
former music room (with a stepped, 3-light cross window with trefoil heads in the
gable end) and a projecting gabled porch dated 1902 and single storey school
office; the door is similar to that in the tower. Set back to the right is
another wing, with a similar doorway, and a 3-light cross window with trefoil
heads in the west gable end.
