Manor house. Dated 1667. Rubble with ashlar dressings, stone slate roof.
2½ storeys, E-plan, with 3 gables above 4 first-floor windows on front, and
2 rear projecting wings. Quoins. Central board door in chamfered quoined
surround with triangular soffit to lintel. Double-chamfered 2-light
mullioned windows with casements; 6 on ground floor. Continuous strings
above ground- and first-floor windows. Outer 2 gables contain blocked
2-light windows above blind oculi with torus moulding to stone surround;
central gable has blind oval. Shaped kneelers, ashlar copings. Rear
elevation: central range, ground floor: part-blocked mullioned and transomed
landing window, 20-pane sash window in stone surround; first floor: 2-light
windows. Left wing: ground floor, C20 window; first floor, 2-lightwindow; gable
coped, with 2 blocked windows and surmounted by corniced ashlar stack.
Right return: doorway as before. Right wing: ground and first floors:
3-light mullioned window; second floor: blocked 2-light window. Left
return: doorway as before. Left elevation: large projecting chimney breast
on plinth with corbelled stack and single-light window on first floor;
smaller chimney breast corbelled out from first floor. Stone surounds to
windows. Interior: hall with large fireplace with chamfered surround and
triangular soffit to lintel and corniced mantelshelf. Room to right of hall
contemporarily panelled. Bedroom above hall with chamfered fireplace, and
bedroom above room to left of hall with chamfered fireplace and C18
panelling. Oak staircase with solid plank treads, turned balusters and ball
finials to newels. Beams have deep chamfers with run-out stops. VCH, i,
