Former corn watermill and miller's house, now house and outbuilding.
Probably early C18, possibly with older origins, and with later alterations
and additions. Coursed rubble, C20 clay pantile and stone slate roofs. L-
shaped plan, of 2 and 3 storeys. Original range has house with rear outshut
to left, and mill to right, the mill having been raised to 3 storeys in the
early-mid C19, and with late C18 house extension added on front of mill end
with single-storey lean-to porch addition in the angle. On right, added
range has external stone stack, C20 clay pantile roof with stone slates to
eaves and, to left return, 4-pane sash window above the porch addition which
has a door. of 6 fielded panels, a tethering hook, and a corrugated sheet
roof. Original house has quoins to left; door of 6 fielded panels in ashlar
architrave with bases inside porch addition; 1 bay of 4-pane sash windows in
matching ashlar architraves, formerly with flat-faced mullions; raised verge
and rebuilt stack to left; and C20 clay pantile roof with stone slates at
eaves. To right, above added range, raised second floor of mill has quoins
and stone slate roof. Rear of mill has board door at first-floor level, and
small window on first and second floors. Left return of house: 4-pane
fixed-light fire window to right; side-sliding sash window in dressed stone
surround to outshut; reverse crowstepping to gable. Right return of mill:
ashlar stone work at base where large overshot waterwheel was. Interior of
mill: on ground floor, old board door, formerly external; heavy beams on
corbels to first and second floors; one lower French burr millstone set in
first floor; remnants of sack hoist. Interior of house: inglenook fireplace
into which has been inserted early C19 stone surround with cavetto brackets
to lintel, now containing late C19 cast-iron kitchen range; curved chamfered
cross beam. Access to the bedroom was gained by a steep ladder-stair until
recently.
