The Old Dame School

House and shop, now house. Late C18-early C19. Coursed sandstone, stone slate and pantile roofs, wrought-iron railings. Two storeys, 2:1 first-floor windows. Left section has cellar under first bay, right section, formerly a shop, is set back. Set into the angle is a single-storey porch with part-glazed four-panel door in doorcase with open pediment. Left section: quoins. C20 four-pane casement windows in ashlar surrounds. Shaped kneelers (broken to left), ashlar coping. Stone slate roof. Brick end stacks. Right section: quoins to right. C20 four-pane casement windows in ashlar surrounds. Pantile roof with stone slates at eaves. Rear: staircase window with Gothick glazing bars and brick round-arched head. Included for group value.
