GV II
Small house. Circa late C16, much altered and extended in C19 and C20. Stone rubble
walls. Gable ended slate roof. Rendered rear lateral stack.
Original part of house now consists of entry hall and principal room projecting at
front right and heated by rear lateral stack with adjoining newel stairs. It is
possible that the house formerly extended further to the left. C20 extension at
rear, C20 staircase inserted in entrance hall. The front of the house was partialy
reconstructed in circa mid C20.
2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front with projecting gable to right of centre.
C20 metal frame casement windows with small panes. On right-hand side of projection
at 1st floor level is probably original single light square-headed granite framed
window. To left of projecting gable is open-fronted lean-to slate porch with stone
seats behind which is 3-centred granite arched doorway with roll moulding.
Interior: The right-hand room has one chamfered cross beam with straight cut stops;
wany joists. Original stone newel stairs with round-headed chamfered doorframe;
this doorway is a significant height above floor level, the reason for which is
unclear since from the evidence of the fireplace the floor level is uncharged. The
chamfered granite jambs of the fireplace are exposed but the lintel is concealed.
Roof-space inaccessible, no evidence of roof trusses on 1st floor.
