SS 53 NE SHIRWELL UPCOTT

5/70 Cartshed or Stable 15 metres
- north west of Upcott Farmhouse

GV II

Shippon with loft and granary, now a cartshed and stables With loft over. Late C18
stone rubble with half-hipped slate roof. 2 storeys to front, but built into bank
without rear access. Originally symmetrical facade with a window and door beneath
flat dressed stone arches to each side of a central window. To the left a heavy
timber lintel has now been inserted to create a wider opening. Stone steps to
right give gable end access to loft which has a row of ventilation holes broken by
three window openings. Included for group value.
