The Windmill Tavern
(Formerly listed as Clifton Windmill)
9.6.67
II
Windmill, probably later C18, formerly disused, now part of restaurant. White
painted render on brick, wooden cap. Tapering circular tower of 4 storeys and
basement, with segmental-headed windows on all floors: to the north east 4
windows vertically aligned and a basement window offset to the right, to the
south west 4 windows slightly less regularly arranged, to south east windows
on 1st and 3rd floors, and at 1st floor a doorway opening onto a flat-roofed
brick extension to the restaurant. At ground floor are brick corbels,
presumably to support struts to a former 1st floor deck. Boat-shaped wooden
cap, with cross-shaped plate to carry sails which are now (1984) missing.
